If you are in “Lifestyle” information overload, are overwhelmed by the different diets, by what you should and should not eat, whether butter is better than margarine, you might be interested in Dr. Michael Dority’s article titled Proteins, Hormones, Fat and Children, published by Selene River Press.
I copied the article below for your reading enjoyment; if you prefer to read it online at Selene River Press, please click here.
“Every cell, tissue, gland, bone, and organ in your body is made from protein. Without protein you cannot repair and rebuild these vital body parts. Processed grains, cereals, breads, chips, and sugary foods provide nothing but a quick burst of energy and calories to burn. These sugary and starchy foods have no protein components whatsoever to repair or rebuild tissues. Protoplasm, the fluid that bathes and nourishes the cells of the tissues, literally means protein fluid. It is the life of all cells. Without the protein to make protoplasm, your body will wear out and die prematurely. The production of the egg and sperm is dependent upon hormones. The body makes hormones from proteins, fats, and cholesterol. At conception, the rapid cell growth of the baby requires protein to make protoplasm, the fluid of life. If the fetus isn’t provided with protein, cell growth is altered and stopped, resulting in the loss of life. Native cultures knew that mothers needed the best of food to secure future generations for their tribes. Without proper food, life could not go on.
Food Fact: During pregnancy and while nursing, women in China eat 8–10 eggs per day. The choline and cholesterol in eggs build brain and nerve tissue and also help a fatty insulation form around the nerve cells of a growing child, ensuring greater intelligence and proper eye and visual development.
Once a child is born, he or she develops very rapidly and thus requires proteins and fats. Breast milk is 60–70 percent fat and cholesterol, and protein is essential for nursing mothers to form their milk.
Yes, fat is good! Cholesterol is good!
Children need fat and cholesterol to make hormones that allow them to grow healthy. Adults need cholesterol to make sex hormones for healthy, functioning reproductive systems. Both children and adults need cholesterol to form vitamin D, which is vital for bone growth, nerve health, and immune system function.
Maybe all those ear infections are due to a deficiency of fat and cholesterol and not a deficiency of antibiotics?!
You need fat and cholesterol for serotonin production. Serotonin is the body’s natural “feel good” biochemical hormone. (Ask yourself, are you and your children happy or cranky?) Fat and cholesterol stimulate your stomach to secrete hormones that signal you’ve eaten enough. When your children are satisfied, nourished, and healthy, they’ll sleep well—and then you can get some sleep too.
Food Fact: The high levels of vitamin A and D in butter, lard, bacon grease, olive oil, and coconut oil increase your immune system’s ability to kill viruses and bacteria, and block auto-immune disease and gastro-intestinal infections.
Letting food be your medicine will reduce your dental care costs. From 1930–1940, Weston A. Price, DDS, studied the teeth and health of native people from around the world. He found that the first signs of nutritional deficiencies were seen in the mouth. As modern foods were introduced into these native cultures over the course of that decade, Price found that men, women, and children—all previously without dental decay—now had multiple decayed teeth as well as receding gums.
Further, Price found that children born to mothers eating modern foods developed narrow palates, crowded teeth, shortened jaws, and decay in their baby teeth.
Food Fact: Archaeologists have found that the skulls of our prehistoric meat-eating, hunting, and gathering ancestors have excellent bone structure and flawless teeth, while the skulls of our prehistoric agrarian ancestors, who lived primarily on grains and vegetable foods, show tooth decay, abscesses and evidence of bone weakness and tuberculosis infection.
A healthy child requires a diet of fat, protein, and fat-soluble vitamins. These are all vital for building the brain, nerves, immune system, bones, and hormones to regulate growth. There are many forms of child abuse. Perhaps a diet of processed, denatured, devitalized food that causes a weakened immune system and growth retardation should be labeled as one of them. We may never know what we prevent by following nature’s laws, but when we break the law of nature, the result is ill health.
As you and your children consume whole, live foods that provide fats, proteins, amino acids, and fat-soluble vitamins and minerals, your family’s health will improve. Consequently, you will be preventing torn ACLs of the knee, stress fractures, shin splints, braces, PMS…and the list goes on and on.
Food Fact: PMS—premenstrual syndrome and “Pissed Male Syndrome” alike—can both be reversed by eating proteins and their associated fats, which contain fat-soluble vitamins A and D as well as the saturated fats needed to produce your body’s sex hormones.
The human body assembles and utilizes about 50,000 different proteins to form organs, nerves, bones, muscles, and flesh. However, the body cannot adequately utilize these proteins without their accompanying fats. So don’t cut the fat out—take a bite and enjoy the fat of the land!
