Self examination: checking for cysts in your intestines Lift up your upper lip in front of a mirror. Do you see that piece of skin connecting your upper lip to your gums? It is called the frenulum.
A small cyst/bump in the frenulum can often be associated with polyps or other inflammation in the small and large intestines. Frenular cysts/bumps closer to the teeth is more indicative of small intestine. Cysts/bumps closer to the upper lip is indicative of large intestine involvement.
